How to resize an App Store screenshot
- Drop an image or choose a PNG/JPEG file.
- Select a supported App Store size, or type custom dimensions.
- Choose a resize mode: Fit, Fill or Stretch.
- Adjust the background colour (Fit) or crop focus (Fill) as needed.
- Preview the result and download it as PNG or JPEG.
Resize modes explained
Fit — keep the whole image
Fit scales the image so everything remains visible and pads the unused space with your chosen background colour. This is the safest option for screenshots with important content near the edges. It preserves the aspect ratio.
Fill — crop to the target
Fill scales the image until it covers the target completely, then crops the overflow. Use the horizontal and vertical focus sliders to choose which part stays visible. This preserves the aspect ratio but removes content outside the crop.
Stretch — distort to fit
Stretch forces the image into the target dimensions and changes its aspect ratio. It is never the default and should be avoided for UI screenshots because text and controls can look distorted.
Supported App Store dimensions
The resizer offers the exact sizes Apple accepts, including portrait and landscape variants for iPhone and iPad. Common examples:
- iPhone 6.9": 1320 × 2868 (or 2868 × 1320 landscape)
- iPhone 6.7": 1290 × 2796
- iPhone 6.5": 1284 × 2778 or 1242 × 2688
- iPhone 5.5": 1242 × 2208
- iPad Pro 13": 2064 × 2752
- iPad Pro 12.9": 2048 × 2732
- Mac and Apple TV landscape sizes are included as well.
Export the final file at the exact size required for the slot you are filling. App Store Connect expects exact pixel dimensions; use the App Store size checker to verify before uploading.
Quality tips
- Start from the highest-resolution screenshot you have; upscaling cannot add detail.
- Prefer PNG for UI screenshots with sharp text and flat colours.
- Use JPEG for photographic backgrounds, with quality around 90% or higher.
- Match the background colour to your screenshot so padding is invisible.
- Keep text away from the outer edges so cropping is safe.
Frequently asked questions
Should I crop or pad when resizing?
Use Fit when everything must stay visible; it adds padding. Use Fill when the image has spare space you can crop. Avoid Stretch, which distorts the aspect ratio.
Is the resize lossless?
No. The image is re-rendered and re-encoded. Start from the best source available and choose PNG for text-heavy UI.
Can I enter a custom size?
Yes. Select “Custom size” and enter any width and height within the tool's safety limits, while remembering that App Store Connect expects exact supported sizes.
Which output format should I pick?
PNG is a good default for UI; JPEG is smaller for photographic content. If a browser cannot encode the requested format, the tool falls back to PNG and tells you.
Is my image uploaded?
No. Decoding, resizing, previewing and exporting all happen in your browser.
